Dr. Patrick Yong is a urologist with comprehensive training in general urology, including oncology, stone disease, BPH, and prosthetics. He completed his urology residency as chief resident at Temple University Hospital, where he cared for diverse patient populations in a high-volume, safety-net health system.
Dr. Yong earned his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health in Biostatistics from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and his Bachelor of Science in Art History and Biochemistry from Yale University. He is board-eligible in urology and holds an active New York medical license.
Dr. Yong's research integrates outcomes analysis, health services research, and clinical innovation, with particular focus on urologic oncology, lung cancer screening, and transgender health. As co-founder of Mount Sinai's Transgender Research Group, he built a database of over 1,000 transgender patients to study surgical and hormonal outcomes. His groundbreaking research on venous thromboembolism risk in transgender women undergoing gender-affirming surgery has challenged prevailing medical assumptions and informed perioperative hormone management protocols.
His work has been published in high-impact journals including Chest, Thorax, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, and he has presented at national conferences such as the American Thoracic Society and World Congress of Endourology. Dr. Yong has received numerous honors including the Gold Humanism Award and Distinction in Research from Mount Sinai, and was recognized as an HHMI Research Fellow at Yale.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Yong has dedicated over a decade to serving marginalized communities through health education and advocacy. His community involvement includes leadership with the Asian/Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS, health education initiatives in New York's Chinatown, and HIV destigmatization work in Uganda. He is committed to providing culturally responsive care and advancing health equity for underserved populations.
