Stress Awareness Month: Tips and Techniques to Help with Stress

Stress is a common problem for many individuals, and Stress Awareness Month is an excellent time to share tips for stress management and relaxation. Everyone deals with stress every day, so knowing how to manage the feeling is very important.

Relaxation techniques can also help you cope with everyday stress. These techniques can help with long-term stress or stress related to various health problems. The number one priority when it comes to stress is to take care of your body.

Other great ways to help your mind and body combat stress can include:

  • Deep breaths, stretching, or meditation

    • Whether this means in a yoga class or before you get out of bed in the morning, taking a minute to calm your body and mind can help you reduce stress.

  • Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals

    • Following a nutrient-dense diet and eating well-balanced meals will give your body the nutrients it needs for optimal health.

  • Exercise regularly

    • Regular exercise can help reduce stress and improve symptoms related to common mental health conditions.

  • Get plenty of sleep

    • Put away your photo or tablet and allow your body some extra relaxation in the form of sleep, getting your 8 hours a night should be a priority!

  • Avoid excessive alcohol, tobacco, and substance use

    • Drinking alcohol and using other substances can not only make you reliant on things to help combat stress, but they can also negatively affect your sleep which in turn makes stress worse.

  • Discuss your problems with a parent, friend, or another trusted source

    • Having someone who is there for you can help you allow yourself to have support, which is a great way to combat stress.

  • Recognize when you need more help

    • Needing professional help when it comes to stress or balancing your life is completely normal. It is best to know when that point is and when you need more help than you can provide yourself.
