In addition to being the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day, February is American Heart Month. So, in keeping with Valentine’s Day day traditions, put a little love in your heart with a heart-healthy, heart-shaped pizza!
Pizza on any day is a people-pleaser, and here’s an extra excuse to have some family fun personalizing pizzas. Everyone will love this creative spin on the tasty pizza pie!
Steps to make your heart-shaped pizza:
- Preheat the oven to 400°
- Start with a baseball-sized ball of dough.
- Roll dough into a circle on a floured surface.
- Use your fingers, a knife, or a pizza cutter to shape dough into a heart (as best as you can).
- Assemble your pizza. Add sauce, mozzarella cheese, and add toppings. Focus on “red” toppings such as tomatoes, red bell peppers, and red onions in honor of Valentine’s Day.
- Bake for 8-12 minutes; time will vary based on the surface area, the thickness of the dough, your oven, etc. Just look out for when the cheese starts to bubble!
- Spice as desired and enjoy!
You’ve now created your own antioxidant and phytochemical-rich unique pizza!
*For added heart-health benefits, use whole grain dough.
