The physicians and staff at New York Kidney Specialists are committed to providing the best quality kidney care available.
What is Nephrology?
Nephrology is a specialty of internal medicine that focuses on the treatment of diseases that affect the kidneys. Your two kidneys are below your ribcage on both sides of your spine. The kidneys have several vital functions, including removing waste and excess fluid from the blood, maintaining your body’s electrolyte balance, and releasing hormones with functions such as managing blood pressure.
Who needs Nephrology?
There are a variety of reasons why you would need to visit a nephrologist. They can work with you to help diagnose and treat many conditions such as kidney stones, kidney failure, blood or protein in the urine. A nephrologist can also be involved when there are other factors causing kidney disease or dysfunction such as medications, high blood pressure, and diabetes. When visiting a nephrologist, they may be involved in performing a variety of tests and procedures including urine analysis, blood tests, and ultrasound scanning.
How Can NY Health Help?
We have developed a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Clinic, specifically geared to treat CKD and related conditions. With the wellbeing of our patients in mind, we also offer a comprehensive kidney disease educational program for patients with advanced CKD (Stages 4 and 5).
